United cancels Auckland, Brisbane flights from Los Angeles – Business Traveller
In the upcoming northern winter schedule from late 2024, Star Alliance member United Airlines no longer plans to operate its seasonal routes from Los Angeles to both Auckland (AKL) and Brisbane (BNE).
United will, however, continue to serve both Auckland and Brisbane out of its San Francisco (SFO) hub.
Delta Air Lines also recently converted its Los Angeles to Auckland route to a seasonal service amid consistently low load factors throughout most of the year.
Delta also recently confirmed that it would not resume its Los Angeles to Shanghai flights, a route that United currently plans to resume this summer. Qantas recently pulled out of Shanghai, too.
Following United’s withdrawal from the Los Angeles-Auckland and Los Angeles-Brisbane markets, the airline’s long-haul flying out of Los Angeles will focus on flights to Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, Sydney and Melbourne, as well as Shanghai should this proceed.
The carrier recently confirmed a second year-round flight between Hong Kong and Los Angeles starting in October, as well as extending the second flight between Seoul and San Francisco to year-round.
Moreover, United recently announced a new service between Cebu and Tokyo-Narita, becoming the first US airline to serve Cebu, and a new service from its Guam hub to Tokyo-Haneda, launching this month.
