Patricia Affonso-Dass becomes Caribbean Hotelier of the Year of CHTA

Patricia Affonso-Dass, the Group General Manager of Ocean Hotels Group in Barbados, has become the Caribbean Hotelier of the Year of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association’s (CHTA). This acknowledgment is a testimony to her decades-long devotion and outstanding governance in the hospitality segment, emphasizing her substantial assistances toward Barbados and the broader Caribbean area.

Affonso-Dass is a true creation of the Caribbean, being born in Dominica and residing in Trinidad and Antigua prior to moving to Guyana where she grew up. Affonso-Dass has been in Barbados for the last 22 years.

After getting her degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management at Florida International University, Affonso-Dass created a remarkable career involving more than 30 years. From her preliminary role with CHTA, to her ground-breaking work in Guyana where she administered an eco-resort and was one of the establishing members and early presidents of the Guyana Hotel and Tourism Association, to her present-day role at Ocean Hotels Group, Affonso-Dass has steadily proven a desire for fineness and a pledge toward uplifting Caribbean tourism ideals.

Affonso-Dass is a fervent supporter of the power of native hotel and tourism associations to be change agents for the sector and their countries. She worked as the President of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association, while also working for the regional growth of the sector, attending on the Board and Executive Committee for CHTA and later being selected by her peers to function as the president of the organization.
