Gatwick to open UK’s first breakfast-serving PizzaExpress – Business Traveller

PizzaExpress will unveil its first restaurant at a UK airport later this month, located within Gatwick’s South Terminal.

The new outlet will open on 20 May, and in another first it will be the only PizzaExpress restaurant to offer a breakfast menu.

Between 0330 and 1100 customers will be able to choose from dishes including an Italian bacon and egg pizza with crispy pancetta, smashed avocado and poached eggs served on freshly baked dough, breakfast dough balls and jam, pancetta and maple syrup pancakes, and English breakfast served with dough sticks.

The brand’s classic menu will then be available from 1100 daily.

The PizzaExpress restaurant is the latest addition to Gatwick’s F&B options, with recent openings including Black Sheep Coffee outlets at the South and North Terminals, and Krispy Kreme and Brewdog venues in the North Terminal.

Commenting on the news Chris Holmes, PizzaExpress chief development officer, said:

“We’re incredibly excited to be opening PizzaExpress at London Gatwick, which is a gateway to many destinations across the world, including some of our own international markets.

“Our customers want to enjoy their favourite brand everywhere and at any time, so opening sites across travel hubs – of which Gatwick is set to be the first airport location – provides even more opportunities for our customers to connect with us.

“Embarking on a journey with our franchise partner, Airport Retail Enterprises, we wanted to set the stage for something different across our Gatwick Airport site. As an industry leading innovator, we created a menu that offers up something fresh and different, appealing to diners around the clock.

“We all know the holiday starts from the moment you arrive at the airport, and from early morning breakfasts to late night dinners, there’s nowhere better to celebrate that holiday feeling than at PizzaExpress London Gatwick.”

Gatwick unveiled its upgraded station facilities in November last year, with the £250 million project including the creation of a second concourse and airport entrance, with eight new escalators, five new lifts, four new stairways and widened platforms.

And the airport’s North Terminal is currently undergoing a multi-million-pound redevelopment, including a modernised departure lounge, improved wayfinding and several new retailers and restaurants.
